Old Kia Kima Preservation Association (OKKPA)
The Old Kia Kima Preservation Association is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization formed to preserve and maintain an abandoned scout camp known as Old Kia Kima. It was founded by a group of men who served on the camp staff when it was in operation. OKKPA is made up of men and women from all over the United States. Some of its members were campers and staff at the camp. Some attended the YWCA camp (Camp Miramichee) which was its neighbor down the river. Some attended the Girl Scout Camp (Camp Kiwani) which was across the road. There are others who never attended the camp or were in scouting. All care about the development of youth.
OKKPA maintains and oversees the camp through volunteer work, annual dues and donations so that youth organizations can use the camp free of charge. A Board of Directors is elected annually to oversee the operation. It meets twice a year and there is an annual membership meeting. In the spring of each year the membership gathers at the camp for a work weekend to prepare it for another camping season. In the fall it sponsors a fellowship event for the membership and interested persons. Membership is open to anyone who wants to touch a life in this way.
